Duncan's bench: a Pavilion Parlor Royale

The Pavilion Parlor Royale represents the most refined iteration of the DC Guitars Pavilion series. While its siblings – the Flat-top and the Thinline – offer a more streamlined aesthetic, the Royale is defined by its sophisticated hand-carved top and traditional set-neck construction.

The Build Process: Precision in Every Carve

Every DC Guitar is built by hand in the UK, and the Royale requires an extra level of technical discipline. Unlike mass-produced instruments, the Royale’s top is graduated to optimise resonance. This process involves meticulous hand-shaping to ensure the semi-hollow body remains lightweight while offering the structural integrity needed for a high-performance instrument.

Even the parts the player will never see are treated with the same level of care. Before the cap is joined to the body, all internal cavities are finish-sanded and stained. This ensures the instrument is as beautiful on the inside as it is on the out, a hallmark of true boutique craftsmanship.

About the Builder

Duncan Cruttenden’s approach to luthiery is backed by formal, world-class training at both the Galloup School of Guitar Building and Repair (USA) and the Totnes School of Guitar Making (UK). Every instrument that leaves the bench is a product of this dual-continental education, blending American technical precision with British artisan tradition.

Because DC Guitars produces a limited number of builds per year, each commission is a collaborative journey. From the initial technical drawings to the final setup, the player is an integral part of the process.
